Server management

We look after the servers that run your websites: dedicated servers, VPS and cloud instances running Linux. That covers setup, security, performance tuning, backups, monitoring and fixing problems when they happen. We have particular experience with high-traffic and video-heavy websites, where caching and delivery decide both speed and hosting cost.

What’s included

The work can be taken as a whole or in parts, depending on what your website needs.

Setup and hardening

Debian and Ubuntu servers configured with SSH key access, firewall rules, automatic security updates and separate accounts with only the permissions they need.

Web stack tuning

Nginx and Apache, PHP-FPM, MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL, with Redis and Memcached for caching.

CDN and video delivery

Cloudflare configuration (DNS, caching rules, firewall and bot rules), edge cache servers, video encoding with FFmpeg and HLS delivery.

Backups and recovery

Scheduled backups stored away from the server, with regular test restores so a backup is known to work before it is needed.

Monitoring and incidents

Alerts for uptime, disk, memory, error rates and certificate expiry, and a written incident note after any outage.

Migrations

Moving sites between servers or providers with a planned cut-over, tested rollback and minimal downtime.

How a project runs

Every project starts with a written scope, timeline and price, agreed before work begins.

  1. Access and inventory

What is installed, how it is configured and how it is used.

  2. Baseline

Current load, weak points and risks, written up with priorities.

  3. Fixes

Hardening, tuning and backup setup, one change at a time with rollback.

  4. Ongoing care

Monitoring, updates and a monthly status report.

Questions

Which hosting providers do you work with?

Any provider that gives root or SSH access, including Hetzner, Contabo, DigitalOcean, Scaleway and Hostinger, as well as servers you host yourself.

Do you need full access to our servers?

We need enough access to do the work, usually an SSH key on a dedicated account. Access stays under your control and is removed when the engagement ends.

What happens if a server fails outside working hours?

Monitoring alerts reach us directly. Response times for managed servers are agreed in writing at the start of the engagement.
